Autumn/Fall in the Northwoods..or should we call it Harvest!?!

Before it was autumn and fall, it was harvest Harvest as a word to mean not just “a time of reaping” but also, even for city folk, “the third season of the year” lasted longer. Association with the transition from warm to cold weather, and its related status as the season of the primary Havest!

But it was joined by autumn—a word borrowed from the French—by the 16th century. The rise of autumn and the appearance of fall happened around the same time as the British arrival on the American continent, and it’s there that the latter really caught on.

This
 season of the year between summer and   winter, during which the weather becomes 
cooler and many plants become dormant, extending in the Northern Hemisphere from 

the autumnal equinox to the winter solstice and popularly considered to include the 
months of September, October, and November...the wonderful season of FALL!
